Green tea cake

Sencha Green Tea Cake


  • 2 tbsp sencha green tea leaves
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder


  • Put 1 1/2 tbsp of sencha green tea leaves in a tea pot.
  • Pour 1/3 cup of hot water over the tea leaves and brew for a minute.
  • Pour green tea into a small bowl and let it cool.
  • Meanwhile, line a 8-inch round cake pan with baking parchment.
  • Preheat oven to 360 degrees F (182 degrees C, Gas mark 4).
  • Combine vegetable oil and green tea in the bowl.
  • Whisk eggs in a large bowl, adding the sugar gradually.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, and 1/2 tbsp of green tea leaves into another bowl.
  • Add half of the flour mixture into egg mixture and stir lightly.
  • Add half of the green tea and oil mixture into the bowl and stir.
  • Add the rest of flour mixture into the batter and stir lightly.
  • Further, add the rest of green tea and oil mixture into the batter and mix well.
  • Pour the batter into the cake pan.
  • Bake in oven for about 35-45 minutes.
