Japanese Organic Gyokuro Asahi Green Tea
In Stock From £17.50
Meticulously cultivated in shaded fields, gyokuro is the most exquisite of the Japanese loose-leaf teas. With a full-bodied yet mellow sweetness that softly lingers on the tongue, gyokuro is best appreciated when sipped slowly and savoured during a relaxing moment.
Being a shade-cultivated tea, gyokuro is rich in theanine - an amino acid responsible for gyokuro's full-bodied mellow sweetness and slightly viscous nature. In Japan, there is a special name for this taste: umami.
A typical serving is a precious 1/3 of a teacup at a very comfortable 60 C. Gyokuro's refined luxurious taste is meant to be savored, not rushed.
HOW TO BREW
Gyokuro is brewed differently to other Japanese teas - using much cooler water and a shorter brewing time.
Pour boiling water into a teapot, let it cool to 50C. Pour the cooled water from the teapot into cups (use 30ml water per cup) this will further cool the water. Dry the inside of the teapot, add 5g Gyokuro per cup (2 heaped teaspoons).
Pour the water from the cups into the teapot, cover with a lid and allow to steep for 2 minutes. Take care not to move the teapot or disturb it in any way.
So as to achieve the best blend of strength and flavour, pour small amounts of tea into each cup. Continue pouring until all the tea has been emptied from the teapot.
